My discovery of organization & minimalism

Image
I've always had a love/hate relationship with cleaning. I'm either scrubbing baseboards with a toothbrush or leaving dishes to pile up in the sink. There's never been an in-between. Living in mess or cluttered areas leave me feeling overwhelmed, stressed and trapped. I discovered the concept of decluttering and threw away almost everything I owned (including a highly toxic marriage)! Some of it was great, and some items were really missed after the fact. *the first coffee table I ever bought and a few couches* image credit :pinterest I read everything from Marie kondo, to watching videos on YouTube by actual cleaning companies. I was obsessed.... But also not obsessed.  I realized after some time that I wasn't looking for a middle ground between cleaning or not, but that I simply had things that I was holding onto for a few daft reasons: - what if I need it one day? - my friend/mom etc will feel offended if I get rid of this - the space must be f...

Review Day : Pure Beginnings - baby bum cream

Image
Having a baby is hard. Changing a nappy in the wee hours of the morning is hard. But seeing diaper Rash?!? - That's probably the most infuriating thing about a change...ESPECIALLY if you're super diligent with changes!! So, Finding a good Nappy cream is SUPER important. We've tried quite a few, but since we also have cloth diapers, I wanted to make sure this review was thorough...does it work as well with cloth nappies as it does(or doesn't) with disposables. Well, keep reading to find out! The very first thing you need to know about these review blog posts is that they are my honest opinion, and absolutely nothing will change that!  I ordered the pure beginnings baby bum cream off takealot for 99 BUCKS, which I felt was a great price. Especially with other sites pricing it at R119 or more. (well done, takealot). Of course, it arrived as takealot's orders usually do.  The packaging is okay. It doesn't make me excited to use the product B...

Review Day : Abella - bean bag, taggy blanket and dummy clips

Image
I first ran into this brand by accident on Facebook. I loved the images of the products sold and it looked top quality enough that I wanted to stock some of the items. As you will know, I MUST do an honest review first. Both for the buyers and also for my shop. Imagine selling a product that turns out to be horrible. no thanx! So Let's get straight into it! I received a package from the company without really knowing what I was receiving. It was relatively small but had quite a weight for its size. Inside the box was a baby bean bag, a taggy blanket and two dummy clips. The Bean Bag  Initially i had NO idea how to use this, so I went onto the website and here's what I got:  "A must have for babes with colic, cramps and winds. To be placed over babies tummy - also FANTASTIC for breastfeeding mommies to place over chest to soothe and relieve pain. Available in pastel pink, pastel blue, navy and white. 100% microwavable. Fleece cover can take off to wash. Inner is...

Review Day: A-Toosh-a-Licious Cloth Nappies

Image
Where do I even begin?!? I started this journey very skeptical and unsure if this 'lifestyle' would work for us. I gotta tell you - when that parcel arrived (especially as quickly as it did), I felt like a kid in a candy store.  I could barely contain myself long enough for the courier to walk to his car!! First of all... I ordered their special (started pack combo - option 2), which consisted of: 3 x Solid colour nappies 7 x Standard print nappies 10 x Microfiber inserts Standard print Wetbag Toosh Balm 1 x Disposable Bamboo Liner All for R995, which I feel is a fairly decent price and quite a good jump into the cloth world. (I'd recommend trying out one or two different types of cloth Nappies before getting this--I got this first-off for this review).  These are all pocket cloth Nappies, which is exactly the type my research indicated would suite my lifestyle best.  I am so in love with this product! Or this brand! The quality and fee...

Delicious Gnocchi from Leftover Mash

Image
You need: Clingwrap (plastic wrap) Leftover potato mash or butternut.  Plain flour Chicken stock block Salt and pepper Oil or butter for frying.  Method: Add flour, salt and pepper to mash, to form a ball of dough.  Cover a work surface with clingwrap, it's less mess to clean.  Work the dough by kneading until it has the consistency of bread dough. Add flour to surface and dough as required.  Roll dough out and cut into squares or rectangles.  Boil a pot with water and the stock cube.  Pop your pasta into the water, one block at a time.  When it floats, its done.  Use as is in tomato soup as dumplings.  Or freeze for later use.  Or fry each piece till golden brown and serve with a sauce of your choice. You can add garlic and herbs to your butter, if you prefer. Have fun and get creative. And there you have it! Filling and cheap! This post was written by contributor, Ann Hassett, for MumKey

How we relieved our baby's Colic symptoms

Image
Being first-time parents was very intimidating at first...especially once baby started showing colic symptoms. With help from awesome friends (Shani especially, Naeema, and Marissa), we managed to find the problem and somehow successfully give baby relief! Here are some relief products we tried and what did/didn't work: 1. Telament This did NOT work for us, it made baby projectile vomit, which meant we needed to calm her and I needed to feed her again (and so the process started from scratch) 2. Colic Calm I got this stuff from my friend, Shani, who was no longer using it with her baby. It was such a lifesaver and eased my spirit because it does not contain alcohol like the other relief options do! It's totally natural. The only downside is the black mess (the liquid is black), but if it gives relief to your little one, the mess is worth it. This stuff is super expensive, so we were lucky to get this free!  3. Gripe Water I will probably get crucified on the mom groups for this...
