Diaper / Nappy Hacks I wish I'd known sooner!
Ever experience a blowout and wonder if there was anything you could've done to prevent it?!? Or just needed a few tips?
Here are some tips and tricks I learnt in my disposable rocket-ship-blowout journey:
1. Diaper /nappy quality will not protect you.
Yes, I know, you want tye best of the best on your baby's bottom. Guess what! Baby might be allergic, or hate the feel.... There is no way of knowing ahead of time. Either way, blowouts happen with the most expensive diapers/Nappies too!
2. A new diaper/nappy means no blowout.
If baby's stomach decides its time to shine, there is no way to ensure that a blowout doesn't happen. Not even a clean, dry nappy can 100% guarantee it!
3. There are flappy things!!
There are TWO flaps on either side of the diaper/nappy (where the legs go). The inner flap holds the poop/pee, and the outer flap protects from leakage. MAKE SURE BOTH FLAPS ARE OUT AND FLARED!
4. Vaseline might work better than rash cream.
Yes, I know, it sounds ridiculous. Why would rash cream be so expensive when vaseline does a perfect job?! Honestly, I don't know. I switched between using rash cream and vaseline and found 2 things :1- the vaseline was more comfortable to apply, and 2- we no longer needed to stress about rashes!!! This worked 150% for our little one, but I obviously cannot guarantee this will be the same for yours!
5. Cloth Nappies are not what they used to be.
After chatting to moms who opted for cloth Nappies/diapers, I was OVERWHELMED with the amount of information and different options out there. I might even still make the investment and switch! Make sure you choose an option that works for your lifestyle, and know that the transition might be easier than you think! I still have LOTS of research to do!
6.Check the weight information when buying!
A number 1 in one brand could have significant size difference to a number 1 in another brand. Check your weight information on the packaging instead! If you're not weighing your little one, this could make the process difficult, but rather a bit of a mission to weigh than a diaper cutting into your baby's skin!
7. Get a wipes container for convenience
I didn't realise how much a wipes container world change my life. When those blowouts happen and you're holding babies legs in one hand, the laaaast thing you want to struggle with, is a darn wipe. You can make a container, too... This is not an ad to buy some random product!
8. Girls and boys have different challenges
I've been peed and pooped on by both boy babies and a little princess, and let me tell you...they come with very different challenges! Boys have zero control over wizz direction, and girls can only be cleaned up 'front-to-back' as an example. If you're prepping for a baby in the house - watch a video on how to change a nappy that fits your needs!
9. Sometimes it's easier to bath!
If your little one has had a particularly large incident in the lower regions, it might be easier to clean baby up and pop him/her into the bath for a quick wash! This is especially true when clothes have been affected by aforementioned incident.
10. Let those tiny buns get some fresh air
It's a good idea to let baby's bits stay diaper/nappy-free for a while during the day. Just make sure the room is at a good temperature so your little one won't get cold (or get too much sun if you're letting baby hang out in sunlight). This is a particularly good idea if your baby struggles with rashes!
And there you have it! 10 tips that literally no one bothered telling me (until I mentioned a new find).
I hope you found these helpful, and that you continue to enjoy this journey of motherhood no matter how tough it may get sometimes!
OK, thanks, see you on the next one, bye! ❤️
